Nakatani has not ridden in races since April when he signalled his intention to retire.

He cited lack of rides coming his way from the top stables for his reason to contemplate retirement.

Among America’s most successful jockeys, Nakatani has won 10 Breeders Cup races and at his height rode 300 winers in one season in 1995.

He had ridden only 27 winners from 158 rides in 2016 when he stepped away from riding in April.

His last G1 winner was Chiropractor in the 2015 GI Hollywood Derby.

Nakatani’s son Matt will act as his agent.

“Not only are we excited to team together, we are excited for what the future holds,” Matt Nakatani said.

“The amount of positive feedback we have received has been very humbling.

“Since I can remember, I have been his biggest fan. I am so proud of the career he has had to date.

“Better yet, he still has many more wins left in him. I am extremely blessed to not only call him my dad but to be able to represent a rider of his capabilities is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Nakatani turned 46 on October 21.
