Bullards Alley Springs Canadian International Upset

Bullards Alley exploded to an upset win at odds of 42-1 in the GI Canadian International at Woodbine on Sunday.

Having his first start in G1 company, Bullard Alley settled fourth on the rain-softened track before making a three-wide move to take the lead into the homestretch.

“What a brilliant horse, I’m just in love him,” were the remarks of rider Eurico Da Silva after the race.

The Tim Glyshaw-trained Bullards Alley had not won in 15 starts since a G3 win in May of 2016 so his win came as a pleasant surprise for co-owner Wayne Spalding, who purchased the gelding for only $11,000 from the Melnyk dispersal at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age sale.

“I never believed he would run that good, but he just hasn’t got a break lately and he finally got one,” Spalding said.

“We brought him back because he seems to like this course a lot,” explained trainer Glyshaw who celebrated his first G1 win.

“He just got first jump on them and sometimes they stay off you when you’re a longshot. It was just too late for them.”
