A capital plan for exciting prospect

Capital Cheval returns to racing.

Promising 4YO Capital Cheval returns to racing in a Class 2 (1200m) in Launceston on Friday.

Capital Cheval, after a disappointing career in Victoria, has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since joining the Jessie Bazan team, and won his two runs prior to having a break.

He trialled quite brilliantly at Longford last week and would only have to take that form into the race to be very hard to beat.

"We are really happy with the way he has come back up this time around.

"He seems to be a lot stronger and a lot more professional. In his trial, he finished off beautifully, so hopefully, he can do the same thing on Friday," Bazan said.

"We did toy with running him in the $50,000 Tasbred 4YO next week but thought it might be a bit too soon to tackle the 1400m."

While he has had just 10 race starts, Capital Cheval showed with his two wins before a spell that he is a horse that could be going places.

"When we got him over, he'd had a fair bit of racing and was at the end of his preparation, so this time around, he's had a really good break.

"He's bright and happy and powerful, and I think we might be in for a great prep.

"We are just going to take him through his grades. We will just take it step by step, starting with a Class 2, and after that, just take him along slowly."

By Alpine Eagle x Sienna Of Sydney, Capital Cheval is bred to get a trip. He was placed over 2100m at Echuca just before moving to Tasmania.

So far, Capital Cheval has had four trainers. He started with Matthew Brown before heading to Liam Howley, then transferred to Joel Flannery, and is now with Bazan.

Bazan will also have You Better Run in the first race, a 1400m maiden and Tulati in the third, also a maiden (1100m).

"You Better Run was quite disappointing last start, but the run before I was quite happy with, and Tulati finds a race that should be appropriate for her; she got galloped on quite badly last time, so hopefully, she gets a bit more luck this time around."

For mine, Capital Cheval is the best bet on the eight-race card, which kicks off at 13:24. Prior to racing getting underway, there are heaps of activities on course for kids and adults alike in what has become one of the most popular race days on the Tasmanian calendar.

Matt Reid will be trackside with all the action and plenty of winners on TasracingTV.
