Ladbrokescomau: Dark Jewel Classic Day Preview 2024

Day two of the Scone Cup Carnival will see ten races run and won, with the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic set to headline the program. The feature event will see a full field assemble with $250k on offer for the Fillies and Mares.

It's sure to be a brilliant day of racing with four other back type events to be contested, including the Listed Ortensia Stakes and the Listed Woodlands Stakes for the two year old fillies.

The rail will we be out 3m from the 800m to the winning post and true for the remainder, with the track currently rated a soft 6.

We've had a close look at all ten races on the program and our thoughts can be found below.

RACE 1 - 11:05PM: YALUMBA MIDWAY BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP (1700 METRES)

Danish Prince has been racing well and produced a determined effort last start to finish less than a length from the winner, after working hard in the early part.

The start prior, the Dane Shadow gelding was strong to the line, just going down by a head in the Wellington Cup.

He'll enjoy getting back out to 1700m and presents hard fit.

Marc Connors has elected to claim, securing Braith Knock to do the steering and take 3kgs off.

RACE 2 - 11:40PM: TAB HIGHWAY CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

Rematch strips fitter for the two runs back and will appreciate some weight relief here.

The locally trained gelding just found the 65kg impost too much when resuming in the heavy conditions at Muswellbrook and last time under 63kgs, he managed to finish off strongly over the final part.

The four year old showed good ability last campaign, working through his grades nicely and he looks well placed here in class 3 company.

Braith Knock will take the mount for Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich and with his 3kg claim, he gets in nicely.

RACE 3 - 12:15PM: ARROWFIELD WOODLANDS STAKES 2YO FILLIES LISTED (1600 METRES)

Toque comes here off a commanding first up victory at Canterbury.

Sent to the paddock after her debut run in the Wyong Magic Millions, where she finished third, the daughter of Street Boss proved too slick when resuming over 1100m.

As we've come to expect from a Waterhouse / Bott trained two year old, she was urged forward, controlled the tempo and was strong late.

Eased down to score by just under three lengths under Tim Clarke, she did it very easily in the end.

T.C. stays in the saddle, from the inside draw he'll adopt similar tactics and she should prove hard to run down.

RACE 4 - 12:50PM: MUSWELLBROOK FORD BM78 HANDICAP (1700 METRES)

Unusual Legacy was very good when kicking off his campaign over 1500m at Rosehill.

The Chris Waller trained galloper travelled strongly in behind the speed and kept working home solidly to the line.

He will have taken benefit from the outing and will relish the rise in trip.

After kicking off his career in NZ where just he just had the one start for one win, he showed plenty of natural talent in his first preparation here, saluting in two of his three runs.

Jason Collett goes onboard and he's set to get the gun run from the low draw.

RACE 5 - 1:25PM: KIA ORA BM72 HANDICAP 3&4YO (1300 METRES)

Godolphin will be represented by a strong team at this meeting and I think they can strike here with Jewellery.

She resumed with a very encouraging effort over the 1100m at Canterbury, charging through the pack under 60kgs to just be denied in the final stages.

Only lightly raced, the four year old Lonhro mare has shown plenty of natural talent but things haven't always gone to plan.

From barrier two she's sure to get the right run under Zac Lloyd and will relish the rise to 1300m.

1 unit – JEWELLERY

RACE 6 - 2:00PM: YARRAMAN PARK DENISE'S JOY STAKES 3YO FILLIES LISTED (1100 METRES)

Commemorative returned to the races in fine order recording a dominant victory at Wyong back in March.

She then stepped out in the PJ Bell Stakes, where she never looked overly comfortable in between runners and just worked home fairly on the heavy track.

A very imposing filly, the daughter of I Am Invincible has shown plenty of raw ability from day one but it looks as though the penny hasn't quite dropped.

With six weeks since that last run, she comes here on the fresh side but has been given two nice trials to keep her ticking over.

I think she'll relish getting out on the big track and from the wide draw, Zac Lloyd can allow her plenty of room to produce her best.

RACE 7 - 2:35PM: EMIRATES PARK ORTENSIA STAKES LISTED (1100 METRES)

Spacewalk didn't have the best of luck when resuming in the Gold Rush at Hawkesbury a fortnight ago.

The Godolphin galloper was held up in the early part of the straight but worked home strongly into third once clear.

The son of Exosphere was in terrific form last campaign and he's always thereabouts.

He will have taken good benefit from that first up outing and does race particularly well over the 1100m.

Drawn to get the right run from gate six and Jason Collett will don the royal blue silks.

RACE 8 - 3:10PM: COOLMORE DARK JEWEL CLASSIC GROUP 3 F&M (1300 METRES)

Mirra View is yet to fire in two runs back this time in but she hasn't had much go her way.

She got a long way back when resuming in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes and just never got into it but she does normally take a run to come to hand.

Last start, she was never on the track in the Hawkesbury Crown so I'm happy to overlook that.

Prepared by team Snowden, she's proven herself a very capable mare on her day and if she can produce her best, she's certainly up to this.

The 1400m looks ideal and whilst she has been dealt another wide draw, if Tom Sherry can slot her in and find cover, she'll be doing her best work late with just 54kgs on her back.

1 unit E/W – MIRRA VIEW

RACE 9 - 3:50PM: SCONE EQUINE HOSPITAL LUSKIN STAR STAKES LISTED (1300 METRES)

Amenable has been performing well at Group One level and will appreciate the drop back in grade.

Prepared at Cranbourne by the Price / Kent team, the son of Lonhro kicked off his campaign at Caulfield in the Shaftesbury Avenue where he was just collared late.

He then made the journey to Sydney, where he just looked to peak late in the George Ryder Stakes but with the two runs under his belt he was brilliant in the All Aged Stakes, hitting the front 100m out, only to be run down in the final stages by Magic Time.

He's fit, the slight drop back to 1300m looks ideal and he's drawn to get the right run under Tommy Berry.

1 unit – AMENABLE

  BET NOW: Scone Race 9

RACE 10 - 4:30PM: GULLIVER'S BM78 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Legio Ten resumes.

The Exosphere gelding does boast a very handy first up record and he was doing his best work late in a recent 740m trial at Warwick Farm.

He's raced consistently throughout his eleven start career and I think he'll continue to step up as the bar is raised.

This looks an ideal first up assignment for him, he's three from four over the 1100m and the 60kgs won't worry him.
