Rough Habit Plate preview for Doomben Saturday

Bryan Guy is happily retired after five decades in the racing industry but his love of the sport will never fade.

Guy, 69, now lives the life of riley on the Gold Coast where he enjoys playing golf up to three days a week.

"I started playing golf a long time ago but I gave it up for about 10 years until I took it up again after I retired two years ago," Guy said.

"I just won my first comp last week."

Guy is hoping for another trophy at Doomben on Saturday when talented three-year-old Press Link lines up in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate over 2000 metres.

Press Link is trained by Robert Heathcote at Eagle Farm and Guy manages the gelding on behalf of his former Hong Kong clients Daniel Hong and Henry Chan.

"They were clients of mine when I was training and when I retired they asked me to buy and manage some horses for them," Guy said.

"I've bought five horses for them so far and four of them have won including two in Hong Kong.

"I paid $30,000 and $50,000 for the two in Hong Kong who have won $800,000 and $45,000 for Press Link."

Press Link - a Michael Rodd mount – will be on trial for the Group 1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm on June 2.

"He should run well and if he shows he'll stay he'll go on to the Queensland Derby in two weeks," Guy said.

Guy trained four Group 1's during his career including his last win at the highest level with Eagle Way in the Queensland Derby in 2016.

Press Link is coming off a last start third to the Gary Portelli-trained Kintyre in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm on May 4.

"His best work was in the last 50 metres," Guy said.

"He's only had five starts for three wins and he still doesn't know what it's all about.

"When the penny drops he'll be a real nice horse."

Guy admits he rarely goes to a racetrack nowadays - only on special occasions.

He'll be there at Doomben for the Rough Habit and hopefully again for a special occasion on Queensland Derby day.
