Treble For Giles Inwood At Bunbury on Friday

Friday May 10 we saw a dual meeting Friday night card, with Gloucester Park and Bunbury running simultaneously throughout the night.

It was a night to remember for Giles Inwood down in Bunbury, with the 39-year-old claiming training honours with a treble on the night.

With five horses engaged at the meeting, six-year-old Rockin Rufus kicked off the festivities after he took out race three on the card.

Driven by Corey Peterson, who also walked away with driving honours on the night with a treble in the cart, and with Rockin Rufus also his first winner on the night, with the pair going forward from barrier three to eventually settle in the one-out-one-back position, with the $1.95 favourite going on to win by 2m in 2:00:9 over the 2100m trip.

Inwood and Peterson joined forces again in race five with Franco Western leading all the way to get the win after a last start second just six days earlier in the Dash For Cash.

It was Veeforvictory in the last that brought up the treble for both camps, with the four-year-old maiden breaking through for his first win at start 22.

Inwood, who first gained his licence in the 200/2005 season has now celebrated 162 wins as a trainer with his biggest win back in 2020 when Semiramide NZ took out the Gr3 Race For Roses.

With eight horses now in work, horses was always the route Giles was going to go down, with school life not for him.

"I was very average at school so I decided to start helping Lang train his horses which got me out of school."

Other winners on the night included I Cross My Heart for local trainer Terry Atkins after the $3.20 favourite took out the opener, the 3YO Westbred pace over the 1609m trip.

Driven by Aldo Cortopassi, the win gave the 47-year-old the first instalment of his race-to-race double, with the winning feeling rolling straight into race two when he not only drove but prepared Wandering Girl for the victory.

Leading all the way in race two, the four-year-old who is racing in great form has won three races and placed 11 times from just 20 starts.

Local trainer Bob Mellsop got the win in race four with Gully Gum driven by Nathan Turvey, with the gelding brining up his third win in the state after just six starts since relocating from the east in late 2023.

The Terry Ferguson trained Scuttlebutt took out the sixth on the card with a 14.4m margin separating first and second placings.

Starting as the $1.55 favourite, the four-year-old led all the way from barrier four and never looked in any danger when Emily Suvaljko skipped away from the field to win comfortably in 1:58:3 over the 1609m sprint trip.
