Sky Racing goes 3D for Queensland Oaks meeting

Sky Racing continues its innovative leadership in racing broadcasting when it becomes the first broadcaster in Australia to deliver racing coverage in 3D.

Sky will be filming in 3D at this Saturday's Queensland Oaks meeting at Eagle Farm, with the program to air on Foxtel's 3D Channel (Channel 201) on Tuesday 26 June 2012.

Sky Racing presenter, Dave Carlson will host Sky Racing: QLD Oaks Day 2012 which will take a 3D, inside look at one of the Brisbane Winter Carnival feature days that also features the Sky Racing Queensland Guineas.

Sky Racing Chief Operating Officer Brendan Parnell is proud to bring another first for racing broadcasting to Australia, in conjunction with the Brisbane Racing Club.

“We initiated the idea with Foxtel and are pleased to bring the technology to Australian racing. The 3D initiative is going to add value for the racing industry and its fans,” Mr Parnell said.

“While 3D broadcasting is in its formative stages, this first for Australian racing broadcasting will help us establish the benefits and opportunities that exist for 3D broadcasting in the longer term.”

Brisbane Racing Club CEO Stephen Ferguson said: “BRC is very proud that Sky has chosen Queensland Oaks Day to trial this exciting initiative. Racing is a sport that must be at the forefront of viewing technology. It is great to see Sky leading the charge on 3D.”

Sky is committed to investing in Australian racing and being the first broadcaster to bring 3D to racing is one of Sky's many innovations.

In February this year Sky introduced brand new high definition outside broadcast vans to Queensland, boosting the quality of Queensland racing broadcasting to Australia and the world.

Sky has also invested in digital upgrades for hotels and TAB outlets and iPad/iPhone users can now watch Sky racing vision on their mobile devices.

Sky Racing and Racing Queensland signed a 10 year partnership in 2011 for Queensland's thoroughbred racing media rights.
