2017 BRC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES: RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The BRC Sires' Produce Stakes is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds conducted by the Brisbane Racing Club during the Queensland racing carnival.

The Sires Produce Stakes has a long history going back to 1882 and was held spasmodically until it became a permanent fixture on the racing calendar as the Queensland Turf Club Sires’ Produce Stakes in 1916.

The title changed in 2010 with the merger of the QTC with the Brisbane Turf Club to form the Brisbane Racing Club.

Eagle Farm has been the traditional home of the Sires’ Produce Stakes. The distance from its inception until 2012 was 1400 metres.

In 2013 the race was transferred to Doomben and shortened to 1350m but will return to Eagle Farm and 1400m in 2017.

The BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes is run under set weight conditions with colts and gelding s carrying 57kg and fillies 55kg.

The BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes was awarded Group 2 status in 1980 and was promoted to Group One in 1987. It reverted to Group 2 in 2006.

It was not held during the war years from 1942-45 and was lost due to adverse weather in 1988 and 1999.

The 2017 BRC Sires Produce Stakes will be run over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday May 27 for prizemoney of $250,000.

The QTC Sires Produce Stakes is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds held late May at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1350 metres and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2016 QTC Sires Produce Stakes was won by Attention from Dreams Aplenty with Nikitas third.
