Narelle Webberley celebrated her first win as a thoroughbred trainer when her lightly raced four-year-old Yanosha scored an emphatic win in the Concept Logistics Maiden over 1200 metres in Launceston on Wednesday night.

Yanosha was having only his fourth start but lived up to the promise he showed at his previous start when a game second to the promising Geegee Alpine Gold earlier this month.

With talented apprentice Taylor Johnstone aboard, Yanosha ($3 fav) raced outside of the leader Stars In The Night ($13) but when Johnstone called on the son of Toronado to extend he quickly forged to the lead and went on to defeat Stars in the Night comfortably with Sally Sunshine ($4.40) a close-up third.

"I have been waiting for almost five years to get my first thoroughbred winner and I'm glad it was this horse because I believe he could be a bit special," Webberley said.

Webberley, who has trained standardbred winners, said she has had help along the way with the unruly gelding.

"I have to thank Sarah and Mel Cotton for their help because he has been a very wayward and headstrong horse to train but I know once he comes to terms with racing, he will be very good."

Yanosha is by Toronado and when Webberley was looking to name the horse, she delved into American history books to come up with his name.

"Yanosha was a North-West American Indian who was one of Geronimo's bravest warriors, so I thought that would be a fitting name for this horse."

Webberley is unsure whether Yanosha will have another start or be tipped out for a short spell after his impressive win.
