Weekend wrap: Benbow's hot form, Jollys, Clarken claim country cups

Jason Benbow’s move to South Australia continues to gain momentum.

From 10 rides across the two race days Jason Benbow had four winners over, a treble at Morphettville followed by a win for the Travis Doudle stable at Gawler on Monday when Prince Tikea scored.

The Victorian hoop started a big Saturday when the Jon O'Connor-trained Rockstar Meggsy powered over the top of rivals in the opening race at Morphettville.

He had to share to prize when Phillip Stokes' Call Me Shamus extended an impressive first-up record by dead-heating with Perfect Route before claiming the last race of the day board Sea Witness for the Byron Cozamanis stable.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable had a big day at Jamestown winning three races including the Cup with Kalamon.

Visiting NT apprentice Jade Hampson was aboard all three, Hayzee Fantayzee winning the opening race, Boogie Nights breaking his maiden status before Kalamon recorded his seventh win from 39 starts winning the day's feature.

OnSunday, SA claimed another Victorian Country Cup feature when Noname Lane led throughout to win the $200,000 Seymour Cup at Bendigo.

Taken straight to the front by Linda Meech, Noname Lane had rivals chasing from a long way out before holding on for a gritty win.

"Every time they come at him, he gave a really nice kick,'' Meech said.

"Will's done a fantastic job with the horse, he was fresh and well and has had a lot of racing so he's a credit to Will.

"That was a quality field and he put them away pretty easy,'' she said.

At Gawler on Monday the Racing SA Apprentice Academy had another successful day.

Maggie Collett got the ball rolling when the well tried Anjopin was too good for the Jaensch stable, Jade Doyle guided Bellavardo to victory, Felicty Atkinson was successful aboard Chosen Blonde while Brittney Wong got Magic Phantom home for the Jon O'Connor stable late in the day.
