Newgate Stud Farm backs Goulburn's The Guy Walter

Goulburn District Race Club is pleased to announce Newgate Farm as the new partner of The Guy Walter, its fillies and mares contest scheduled as part of the Goulburn Cup program on Sunday 30th October.

The Guy Walter is a Class 3 fillies and mares race over 1300m that recognises the legacy of former champion trainer and Hall of Famer, Guy Walter.

Goulburn District Race Club's CEO Robyn Fife said the partnership is great news with this year's Goulburn Cup program now only three weeks away.

"The Guy Walter now has a potential breeding incentive through Newgate Farm bloodlines for participants, complementing perfectly the $50,000 prizemoney on offer.

"We welcome Newgate Farm on board as a new partner in a race that is an integral and well respected part of our stronger than ever Cup Day program in 2022."

Ms Fife said the partnership will help refresh the appeal of the race and what it commemorates.

"This race is now in its ninth edition and is about recognition of Guy's legacy for our club and associated people. We are extremely pleased that Newgate Farm has joined us in doing that."

Newgate Farm representative Tony Williams, Director of Stallions, echoed those sentiments in co-announcing the partnership between his organisation and Goulburn District Race Club.

"It is fitting that Newgate Farm support this race. Guy Walter was one of the most respected trainers and people in the racing business, his loss was felt by the entire industry.

"Importantly we are supporting provincial and country racing, which is the backbone of the industry which Guy was such a big supporter," Mr Williams said.

Tony Williams also outlined the exciting potential breeding opportunity that the race partnership will now afford acceptors for The Guy Walter.

"Tassort is a stallion that complements the Newgate roster perfectly. He won the Golden Gift on debut in record-breaking time and margin earning a 103 WFA performance rating.

"Tassort also hails from one of Australia's truly elite families and is a half-brother to Astern whose progeny are taking all before them this season on the racetrack.

"Our major partner in Tassort, Emirates Park Stud, along with Newgate have heavily supported Tassort with quality mares including Golden Slipper winner Mossfun, Enthaar and Liwa.

"Tassort also covered more mares in his second season at stud than his first, a testament to the type of foals he is throwing.

"Importantly, his progeny are good types and will be well sought after at the 2023 yearling sales. Tassort's progeny will be in high-class stables which will give them every opportunity to succeed."
