Johnny ready for repeat dose in Hobart on Sunday

Hall of Fame trainer Gary White is confident his handy sprinter Johnny Chutzpah can keep his unbeaten record this season intact when he tackles the Raine & Horne Commercial Hobart benchmark 68 Handicap over 1200 metres in Hobart on Sunday.

In Brief

  • Johnny Chutzpah has trained on since his first-up win in Launceston.
  • Hobart track should be more suitable to former Victorian.
  • Peace Be Upon Him's trainer also confident.

Johnny Chutzpah returned to racing from a lengthy break with an outstanding win in a BM68 in Launceston three weeks ago, defeating Michbar and Peace be Upon Him.

"Johnny has done really well since his first-up win and I'm confident the Elwick track is going to be even more suitable than Mowbray," White said.

Johnny Chutzpah had knee surgery on his near-front knee to remove bone chips and White is always mindful of track conditions when the horse is racing.

"He didn't feel the effects of a firmish track in Launceston last start, but I am confident the Elwick track is more forgiving and that will suit hm even more and that uphill run is another factor in his favour.

"He has trained on since that first-up run and while he goes up a bit in weight (1.5kg) he is capable of handling it."

The logical danger is the Dylan Clark-trained Peace Be Upon Him that finished 1-1/2 lengths behind Johnny Chutzpah at his most recent outing.

The gelding had no luck last start and he has form on the Hobart circuit where he finished third to Turk Warrior last season in the Carbine Club 3YO Plate.

Peace Be Upon Him has won three of his nine starts as well as four minor placings and would only need to improve slightly on his latest effort to be very competitive.

"I can't fault his work and from a really good draw I expect him to be hard to beat," Clark said.
