Shaw set to unleash winning streak

Brighton trainer Stephen Shaw says his small team is now ready to make an impact on graded races during the 2023 Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival.

Stephen Shaw's promising three-year-old Beserker broke his maiden status in Launceston last Friday night and the wily trainer expects at least one more winner to emerge at the same venue on Wednesday night.

Brew Horse has had three starts this preparation and Shaw says the gelding goes into the Jack Chambers Memorial BM70 Handicap (1600m) ready to win.

Brew Horse comes off a last-start third behind We Deserve This in Hobart last month beaten over two lengths, but he toughed it out and stays at the same distance.

"I couldn't be happier with Brew Horse's latest effort, and he has definitely improved since that run," Shaw said.

"I know all his wins have been in Hobart, but the Launceston track suits him more the way he is racing this preparation.

"He maps really well from a widish gate (7), so I can see him racing outside of the leader (Clifton Danseur) and be too strong for them as this is his second run over 1600m, so he will be that much fitter this time."

Shaw also expects Dominator's Girl to turn her modest form around in the Class 1 handicap (race nine) over 1400m.

Dominator's Girl has had three starts this preparation but her latest, an eighth of 10 in a class one in Hobart (1200m) was well below expectations.

"I won't run Dominator's Girl in Hobart again because for some reason she just hates it, so we'll concentrate on Launceston.

"She had a couple of little issues that I had to sort out, but we've done that and if she takes her trackwork into this race she will be very hard to beat."

Shaw will also saddle up first-starter Trabzon in a 3YO maiden over 1100m (race two).

"Trabzon is a nice horse in the making but I think he will improve on whatever he does on Wednesday night.

"His trials have been good, but he still does a few things wrong, so it will just have to see where he's at after this run."

One of the better bets on the nine-race card could be the Gary White-trained My Keefe that has placed fourth at his two starts this preparation but lands in a weak maiden over 1400m and would only need to improve slightly on his last-start fourth in Hobart (1200m) behind stablemate Zulu Angel.

My Keefe debuted with a fifth in Hobart in July and resumed with a fourth to the highly promising Fear the Sting in Hobart in mid-December and last start he looked to be in a winning position in the home straight only to be hampered at a crucial stage.

From an ideal draw (4), rider Bulent Muhcu should be able to have the Toorak Toff gelding settled no worse than midfield and one-off with cover, so if that eventuates, he should be extremely hard to beat with the Team Wells-trained pair Geegees Misty and Miss Peculiar the likely dangers.
