That one start, a Devonport maiden win back in September, could not have been more impressive. D'Oro Star crossed from the outside barrier, settled in front, and raced clear, winning by three lengths.

Siggy Carr was the jockey that day and was full of praise after the race.

"He's got a lovely big stride and when I asked him for an effort he found and he was very soft late, he's got plenty of potential," Carr said at the time.

Trainer Liandra Gray says D'oro Star is the best horse she has had, he recently dashed home in 32.66s for the last 600m of a Launceston trial.

"He trialled in a little bit quicker time than we expected.

"We took him there just planning to give him a really soft trial, but it didn't pan out that way," Gray said.

"We didn't really want to trial him, but when they had those trials on at Launceston, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to have a look at the track.

"We'll go the class 1 (1100m) on Friday night and if he goes well in that, we will go on to the 3YO Cup 12 days later."

The 3YO Cup is a 1200m set weights and penalties race carrying $125,00 in prizemoney in Launceston on 29 November.

After that, Gray, depending on form, may try to stretch the half-brother to Still A Star out to a longer distance.

"We'll just take it one race at a time, he's bred to get a little bit of a trip, we might look at the (3YO) Trophy and step him out in distance, but we will just take it run by run and see how he goes.

"I think his dad won over 2000m, and Still A Star got out to 2100m, so we're thinking that he might, but at the moment, he is sprinting really well."

Gray says having a horse like D'oro Star makes it a little easier to get out of bed each morning.

"It makes it a little more stressful too," she said with a laugh.

Gray will also saddle-up Mr Rouquin on Friday night, he'll tackle the Maiden/Class 1 over 1600m.

"He's always consistent. I don't think he's any world beater, but he always tries his best and is drawn to get a nice run."

Friday night has attracted a strong program with nine races to be decided, the first at 17:40 and the final race at 21:40 which is a change from what was originally posted.
