Despite Neville Parnham amassing over 2000 career wins of which more than 100 have been achieved at stakes level, Bustler winning the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot is an accomplishment which until Saturday had eluded Parnham.

"It's a big thrill to win this race," Parnham said.

"It's a time honoured race, we've had a few cracks and we've come up a little bit short."

From a low gate, Bustler was one of the best away for jockey Steven Parnham before being eased out of an early speed battle set by the likes of Marocchino and Massimo.

Bustler was able to be peeled off heels immediately upon straightening, hitting the front approaching the 100m and surging to the line ahead of Alsephina and Dom To Shoot.

"It just worked well and it probably wasn't plan A either," Steven Parnham said.

"Sometimes you just ride on instinct. That's what dad does, he just lets me go out there. I do my form.

"I just let those first early ones go and there just was a bit of a group and there was Comfort Me three deep and I thought, 'I'm following him because he's going to get me into the race and I won't have to come off his back any earlier than I need to.'

"I'll tell in the run I was pretty excited, so when I gave him a squeeze, he flew."

Like father Neville, Saturday's Railway Stakes was Steve's first victory in the prestigious WA mile event, something not lost on the jockey.

"I've said for a few years now that this is a race I want to win before I finish riding, not that I plan on finish riding soon but it's our most historic race and I feel the hardest one to win," Parnham said.

"There are just so many things that needed to go right and he just had the right thing - the right weight, the right barrier, ended up with the right run and got the right result. So I was on the right horse."

Bustler has since firmed to an equal $8.00 third elect for the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on December 9.

The only potential rivals to Bustler shorter in betting for the $1.5million feature event are Zaaki and stablemate Zipaway who was a cut above in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) 30 minutes earlier.

Bustler and Zipaway were part of a winning treble for the Neville Parnham stable on Railway Stakes day with Onemoretwomany having maintained his unbeaten record when taking out the Magic Millions Gai Waterhouse 2YO Crystal Slipper (1100m) earlier in the program.
