The reigning Tasmanian Horse of the Year has had four starts this season, twice in Sydney and twice in Melbourne, his most recent being a fifth in the Champions Mile (1600m) at Flemington on 11 November.
The 8YO has had a freshen since then and will head to the track where he has won seven times from eight starts and is unbeaten (3/3) at the track and distance.
It could be argued with five of his 16 career wins being at the 1400m trip, this is his pet distance.
"I personally think it is, I reckon it's the ideal sweet spot for him.
"Over 1200m, he's always off the bit a little, and he finishes over the top but with the 1400m he gets a bit of a chance to settle," part-owner Richard Robinson said.
"I'd say the past 12 months, he's been racing at his peak, really; prior to that, he wasn't quite good enough to compete at the elite level, but in the past 12 months, he's been racing at his best."
Drawn barrier two and under weight-for-age (WFA) conditions, The Inevitable will be a short-priced favourite; most of his opposition contested the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) a fortnight ago, the winner First Accused, a former stablemate of The Inevitable, and Hype, a fast finishing fifth look the hardest to beat.
"David Pires has got a good record on the horse, and I think Dave will be able to jump and find a nice position somewhere.
"Dave's got a real affinity with the horse; they've really clicked."
After Wednesday night, The Inevitable will likely follow the same program as last year when he took all before him during the Summer Racing Festival, winning all the major WFA events.
"I haven't spoken to John (trainer John Keys) about that, so I think we will get through this week, but that's probably the logical path to follow.
"It's just exciting that Tassie's best horse will be racing throughout the carnival."
While the Conquering is the feature race there is a strong undercard with the $50,000 Alfa Bowl for 2YOs (1100m) and the $75,000 3YO Trophy (1400m) other feature events.
