Record breaker is Topnotch

His mum is Gee Gees Topnotch and her son Geegees Gemstone may well live up to that moniker after a track record run in the Winzenberg Hcp, (1100m) in Hobart on Sunday.

After settling just behind the speed, rider Anthony Darmanin pulled the exciting 4yo to the centre of the track and he stormed past his rivals to eclipse the 1100m record by almost a second.

"Full credit to the horse, he's come here today he's grown up and he's a serious horse, pretty exciting," trainer Stuart Gandy said after the race.

"He'll head to the paddock and we'll just assess and look after him and make sure we see the best of him when he comes back."

"The plan worked out perfectly there was a good genuine speed so the horse relaxed so nice for me, he's still doing a few little things wrong, he wants to lay in but he hit the line really well," Darmanin said.

"Stuart is doing a great job, this horse has definitely got a lot of ability so hopefully we can stick together."

Geegees Gemstone has now won his past four starts and looks destined to become a 'topnotch' galloper.
