Neil Evans' tips for Tuncurry (Monday)

Race 1 CLASS 1 HCP (1005m):

The Todd Howlett stable has a firm grip on the opener, and with some showers forecast, leaning clearly to 2. Canny Prospect fifth-up behind a dominant maiden win at Dubbo. Carries 1.5kg less with a superior pilot back on board, and rates as the superior soft tracker.

Dangers: Naturally, the stablemate 1. Everylittle Breeze has solid claims third-up. Hit the line well as an easing favourite last start, and also sound on rain-affected ground. Drawn inside, 5. Cool Ruler improves second-up off a month-long freshen; while 6. Time And Rhythm hard fit deep into the prep; adds value into trifecta and first four returns.

How to play it: Canny Prospect to win

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1205m):

Improving mare 3. Jody Girl is primed to break through fourth-up rolling forward in a very average affair. Boxed on okay in a deeper race at Muswellbrook two starts back before again leading until the final strides 13 days ago. Jockey change is handy, and so is a little drop in distance. The one to beat.

Dangers: Improving 7. Maybe Smart has run home okay in her last two, and should find a handy trail here off the fence, although would need to improve a length or two to trouble the top selection. Watch the betting on lightly raced 1. Casdaemon resuming behind a quiet trial for a smart fresh yard; while 9. Orsum draws the fence third-up and can finish in the placings after the bias was totally against him last start.

How to play it: Jody Girl to win

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1405m):

Trickier and wider battle here. Honest 2. Shigeru  has had two fair runs back, and can peak here in a thinner race from a softer draw. Held his ground only 11 days ago behind a promising winner who was heavily backed, and he's comfortable on soft ground.

Dangers: After finishing down the track in much smarter company when resuming, metro filly 11. Ocean Diva is well placed over more ground from a low barrier. Big watch on 5. Rockbarton Island who can improve sharply second-up with weight relief, despite drawing wide. Both 1. Boys Cry who has placed in his last four; and debutant Prized icon filly 10. Icon Dream off two progressive wet track trials; go in the exotic plays.

How to play it: Shigeru to win

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1005m):

Plenty of chances here headed by progressive filly 10. Boambee Beach who can strike second-up. Was well supported when working home late first-up over the scamper 800m on a lightning track at Coffs where they ran a record, and the last 600m in a slick 33.18 secs, so will naturally relish the extra trip. Flew home on debut at big odds last winter to run the smart Tayla's One to under a length.

Dangers: The market will tell a story with Territories gelding 4. Terror Australia who debuts behind a leisurely provincial trial. Similar story with 6. Hell Oh Baby who looks ready to run a race on debut off two progressive trials, and the Hellbent stock are going great guns at the moment. Another one fresh is ex-Victorian mare 7. Keitany having her first outing for the new Newcastle stable. Draws wide, but has a sound record early in the campaigns. Keep safe 12. Lotta Grunt on debut for the Kris Lees yard behind two soft provincial trials.

How to play it: Boambee Beach to win

Race 5 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1605m):

Lightly raced and well-bred filly 11. Image Of The Sun can take the next step, and go back-to-back. Swept home from midfield for a dominant maiden win as the hottest of favourite second-up, and drawn to find cover back in the pack, this distance under the same weight and senior jockey makes her the clear one to beat. One needs clear air from the turn, and Saturday Highway company looks just around the corner.

Dangers: Improving 3. Cardsharp draws to get a soft run after working home from near last in a handy BM 58 from which the winner has since scored again. Big watch too on 8. Twelfth Night who can improve sharply off a plain first-up run in Canberra. Include in wider exotics, 5. Flying Step deep into her prep, 6. Outback Crumpet who flashed home to win her maiden two starts back, and at long odds 2. Atacama third-up.

How to play it: Image Of The Sun to win

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1205m):

Got plenty of time for provincial-based filly 8. Scholl Deep who returns for her second prep, and only fourth start. Went close on debut at her home track last winter before thrashing country opposition next start by nearly four lengths. Fitted with two quiet trials on rain-affected ground, and this shapes as an ideal starting point. Gets in only 1kg over the limit weight after the jockey's claim.

Dangers: Over the odds is 1. Dis Is Heaven who reloads off a month's break, and drops down from much deeper Saturday Highway company where twice his efforts were better than they looked on paper. Keep very safe at good odds, emerging filly 11. Rockbarton Fashion who claimed her maiden on debut a fortnight ago, and draws to get a cosy run right behind the speed. Under the odds is honest colt 6. Edge Of Midnight from a tough draw, despite running into the placings in his last three. Despite all drawing wider barriers as well, include 3. Foolish down in grade; home tracker 4. Napoli with winkers back on; and 5. Grand Horizon who ran home hard first-up; on an each-way and exotic scale.

How to play it: Scholl Deep to win

Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1405m):

Tough and open closer. Consistent metro four-year-old 15. Dark Vador represents good value fifth-up. Has been in the money all prep since late spring, and won his maiden here comfortably three starts back. Up in grade from just a fair CL1 run last time, but gets handy weight relief.

Dangers: Plenty of them starting with unbeaten mare 11. Christa who resumes for only her third start. Cruised home on debut in soft ground before being ridden quieter and finishing best in a handy BM 58. Kept safe at the trials, and is right up to winning this, despite a tricky draw. Stablemate of the top selection, 5. Miss Lenorr draws to get an economical run back in the field third-up; while 7. Mr Tabasco who comes through a useful form race; 14. Zoe Shark up in distance; and improving 16. Fun Enuff with blinkers going on; are all capable of running into the money.

How to play it: Dark Vador each way
