Splash Some Cash eyeing off third Kangaroo Island Cup

Splash Some Cash returns to Kingscote for his fifth tilt at a $40,000 Kangaroo Island Cup on Saturday.

The David Page-trained galloper has had seven starts on the island winning four races and running two seconds, his only unplaced effort coming at his first Cup attempt in 2020 when he finished fifth behind Diamonds Are.

He returned to win the 2021 feature before repeating that effort in 2022 when he led throughout to defeat Aussie Sojourn.

He then won his first of two Port Lincoln Cups at his next start before returning to Kangaroo Island and finishing second behind Hamslette in last year's feature.

Hamslette returns to defend his title, this year for new trainer Nicole Irwin, a two-time KI Cup winning trainer in 2016 and 2017 who has a 21 per cent strike rate on the island with 35 of her 171 career wins coming at Kingscote.

Irwin also saddles up Eureka's Victory in the feature.

It's a vastly different Cup task for the Michael Hickmott trained Oath Of Omerta in 2024 being a tick under two years since he tackled a Group 2 Adelaide Cup at Morphettville.
