The barrier draw has not been kind to the Ciaron Maher stable as it chases a first win in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield. 

Spywire has drawn the extreme outside gate in Melbourne's premier race for two-year-olds over 1200m on Saturday in what will be the colt's first run racing left-handed. 

The son of Trapeze Artist won on debut at Rosehill and two starts later at the Gold Coast before finishing third to Storm Boy in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 13. 

A $34 chance in latest betting, Spywire may be a forgotten the horse in Saturday's line-up, but he is certainly not the forgotten galloper in Maher's eyes. 

Spywire won a Cranbourne jump-out on February 12 in preparation for Saturday's contest after arriving from Queensland. 

"He trialled really sharp the other day and he galloped at Cranbourne on Tuesday morning, and he's fit and well and ready to go," Maher said. 

"He handled the travel back from Queensland well and we gave him a bit of time and he's had that trial, and he looks fantastic." 

Maher said Spywire shaped up as well as any of the stable's previous runners in the Blue Diamond as the trainer searches for his maiden win in the race. 

But Maher concedes the race, on paper anyway, looks a strong edition. 

He said the Matt Laurie-trained Coleman , in particular, looks a strong chance. 

"He's right up there with our two-year-olds that we've had in the race previously," Maher said. 

"We're chasing our first Blue Diamond and hopefully he might be our first, but it's a pretty strong race this year, but he's in pretty good order." 

Maher said Spywire was an easy horse to deal with and it will be up to John Allen to give him a good ride from the poor draw. 

"He generally breaks pretty clean and puts himself in the race," Maher said. 

"He's a very straight forward horse. He can run you any time on the track. 

"He's enthusiastic and he's got a good constitution." 

Coleman remains favourite at $4.40 in latest markets while Lady Of Camelot has moved into second favourite at $5 with Bodyguard drifting out to third pick at $5.50.
