From a wide barrier, jockey Craig Williams had Megamea ($7.50) in the first six and although she was three wide, she had cover, and after hitting the front 200m from home, she held off the fast finishing Jenny Jerome ($7) who flashed late with mare Alvarinho ($6) third.

Heavily backed favourite Yellow Sam ($2.70 – $2.00), who was going for the feature mares double, finished fourth after being last around the home turn.

The win brought up a double for Williams who earlier in the day dead-heated in the Hellova Street Stakes.

"I was very happy with her form going into the race, Luke Oliver is a very good trainer, I thought she ran well the other day, and we got the sweetest run, and most importantly, she actually behaved well in the race, she wasn't too keen, we had an awkward barrier draw pre-race and we got a lovely run and cart into it," Williams said.

Megamea has now raced 37 times for seven wins and importantly gets Black Type for the win.

A shared prize in Hellova Street stakes

A masterful ride by Craig Newitt enabled Indispensable to grab a dead heat in the Listed $125,000 Hellova Street Stakes WFA (1600m).

Indispensable ($8) was near the tail nearing the home turn before Newitt weaved through the field, and he grabbed a dead heat with Victorian Keats, who was in front a stride before the line.

Keats ($2.60) was being hailed the winner after grabbing the lead and turning for home but had to settle for a share of first place.

Third place went to First Accused ($4) with Just A Tribute coming from last to finish fourth.

Connections of both winners agreed it was better to share first prize than be beaten on the line.

Keats, trained by Gavin Bedggood, has now won eight times from 41 starts while Indispensable has won twice and been placed twice in six Tasmanian runs since joining the John Blacker stable from Queensland.

D'oro the 3YO star

Consistent youngster D'Oro Star showed his class with a narrow but impressive win in the $100,000 3YO Classic (1200m) beating Aruma ($13) and Dark Journey ($8.50).

Trained at Devonport by Liandra Gray,D'oro Star ($3.90) has never missed a cheque with his record standing at seven starts for three wins and four placings with stake earnings of $180,000.

From barrier eight, Anthony Darmanin had D'oro Star second outside the leader for most of the trip before surging to the front at the 200m.

Aruma got out late and ran home well; Dark Journey nosed out early leader Bine for third place.

"We actually weren't going to come here we were going to turn him out after the 3YO Trophy, but I said to the owners he is so well, and you only get once chance at these 3YO races, why not have a crack, and he's done a good job to come back from a mile to 1400m to 1200m," the trainer said.
