The Sandown Hillside track is once again the venue for Melbourne metropolitan midweek racing on Wednesday.

The rail is out 4m the entire course with a good racing surface being presented.

We've provided our top selections for each race below.

RACE 1 - 3:05PM: Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000 METRES)

Gilmore (4) didn't have a lot go her way when resuming over 955m at The Valley last start but the run was full of merit.

The Team Snowden-trained daughter of Flying Artie jumped well but was forced to go right to the back when she couldn't get in.

Despite that and racing wide, she flew home down the outside to finish third by 3.3 lengths.

She draws more favourably here for Blake Shinn.

RACE 2 - 3:40PM: Maiden Plate (1300 METRES)

Quickster (14) backed up two very good jump outs with an excellent first-up performance on The Lakeside track last start.

The Moody Coleman-trained filly settled back over 1200m before charging hard and fast to the line but unfortunately Fury got things to suit in front and she had to settle for a 1.3 length second.

She'll strip fitter and finished fourth in the Group 2 Fillies Classic at The Valley when second-up last preparation.

The extra distance suits and she gets the benefit of Blake Shinn taking the ride.

2 Units – Quickster (14)

BET NOW: Sandown Race 2

RACE 3 - 4:15PM: 3YO Maiden Plate (1500 METRES)

Adjanni (9) was enormous when debuting over 1600m at Bendigo last start.

The Busuttin Young-trained daughter of American Pharaoh was fired up early and wouldn't settle as she set a brisk speed in front.

Despite that she gave a big kick in the straight and went within a nose of winning.

Pre-race ear muffs go on which should keep her calm and she'll strip fitter second-up.

Once again, I'm siding with my man Blake Shinn who can give her a great run from the inside barrier.

2 Units – Adjanni (9)

BET NOW: Sandown Race 3

RACE 4 - 4:50PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (1500 METRES)

Fire Of Etna (6) will appreciate the drop in class after competing well in stronger races than this recently.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained four-year-old mare has fought bravely over 1600m at The Valley in her past two starts to fill the placings.

Those were Benchmark 70 Handicaps for the girls and she now drops to a Benchmark 64 Handicap.

The last time she contested this level was four starts ago when she savaged the line to win first-up at Seymour.

1 Unit – Fire Of Etna (6)

RACE 5 - 5:25PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (1300 METRES)

Sunshineinmypocket (5) created an impression when winning on debut at Ballarat last start.

The Ciaron Maher-trained son of Proisir had to weave a passage in the straight but once clear, he powered to the line to win the 1200m contest by just under a length.

He'll be better for the experience and will appreciate the rise in distance.

There looks to be good speed in the race which will suit.

RACE 6 - 6:00PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (2400 METRES)

Two Questions (5) may have only won his maiden last start but there was an air of arrogance about the win that suggested he can progress through the grades.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Tavistock gelding was strong through the line two starts back when finishing second at Moe in his first start over this distance.

That run put the writing on the wall and he came out last start and completely dominated his rivals over 2400m at Bendigo, dashing clear in the straight before being shut off late to win by 1.3 lengths with six lengths to third.

He can go on with it now that he has broken through.

1 Unit – Two Questions (5)

RACE 7 - 6:30PM: 3YO C,H&G Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000 METRES)

Pantelone (7) was last seen finishing fifth in the Listed Springtime Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

The Godolphin-owned Street Boss gelding races well fresh and looks ready to fire first-up based on two jump outs where he worked home nicely under his own steam against quality opponents.

Three starts back he won at Mornington over 1200m when last contesting a race of this level.

He maps to get a great run for Mark Zahra from the inside draw.

1 Unit – Pantelone (7)

BET NOW: Sandown Race 7

RACE 8 - 7:00PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (1800 METRES)

Freight Train (13) won in fine style on debut over 1600m at Pakenham.

The Price and Kent Jnr-trained three-year-old gelding let down powerfully once Blake Shinn got him to the outside and he dashed clear to win by 1.8 lengths.

He'll strip fitter second-up and he gives every indication that he'll enjoy the rise to 1800m.

Shinn should be able to provide him with an economical run from barrier 2.

2 Units – Freight Train (13)

BET NOW: Sandown Race 8
