Humphries firing on all cylinders ahead of Premier League Night Eight

World Champion Luke Humphries has been in exceptional form in the Premier League over the past two weeks, securing back-to-back night victories in March.

'Cool Hand' has won six successive matches in the series by an aggregate score of 36-16 with triumphs over Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Michael Smith twice, Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall.

Night Eight, which takes place on Thursday at Dublin's 3Arena, sees a change to the format, with quarter-final match-ups based on the current league positions. This means Humphries will face bottom of the table Wright in the tournament opener.

This mismatch could certainly provide betting angles, 'Snakebite' is 1-7 in this season's competition and lost 6-4 to Humphries on Night Two.

Humprhies leads the competition in three-dart average (101.96), matches won (10), average against the throw (103.45), percentage of legs won (58.16%) and percentage of legs won against the throw.

Wright, meanwhile, ranks last in three-dart average (92.95), checkout percentage (29.13), percentage of legs won (38.96) and percentage of legs won throwing first (51.35).

Humphries has also hit 51 180s (3.4 per game) compared to Wright's 20 (2.5 per game) - opening up the match double at a price of 4/5 - most likely as a parlay addition.

The winner will face either Nathan Aspinall or Rob Cross in the semi-final – the pair currently rank fourth and fifth in the Premier League standings.

'The Asp' is probably the form horse outside of Humphries – he has reached the final on three of the past four nights, winning 6-2 against Cross in the Night Five final. Aspinall also boasts a 3-0 Premier League record against Cross this season with 6-4, 6-2 and 6-5 victories.

However, statistically, Cross has a higher three-dart average (97.41-95.05), checkout percentage (38.61-32.98) and has won a higher percentage of his legs (50.41-49.61). With the 6-2 defeat as an outlier, and the stats as they are, an over 9.5 legs punt at 5/6 is probably the place to be.

The bottom half of the draw contains a quarter-final showdown between Michael van Gerwen and Gerywn Price, with Michael Smith and Luke Littler contesting the other match.

Since winning three consecutive nights earlier in the season, 'MVG' has exited at the quarter-final stage in three consecutive weeks to Humphries, Cross and Littler. He averaged 110.94 in a 6-2 loss to 'The Nuke' last Thursday, so his scoring certainly isn't lacking.

However, Price has struggled in this season's Premier League, with his double-hitting leaving a lot to be desired. A 'Mighty Mike' victory at 8/11 could be added to your night bet builder.

Meanwhile, Littler against Smith could be the pick of the evening in terms of contests. 'Bully Boy' took a Night One semi-final 6-5, before 'The Nuke' returned fire in a Night Five quarter-final.

Night Six saw Smith edge Little 6-3 in another semi-final meeting – in a topsy-turvy series between the two, perhaps a wager is best avoided. However, a 7/4 price on a Smith win is an enticing proposition.
