Goulburn winners - tips for Sunday, 24th March 2024

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Goulburn meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:55PM SWIFTWOOD TILES & BATHROOMS MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

7. Spanish Fox did a lot of chasing at Wyong last start when favourite and while no match for the winner stayed on quite well to hold down second. Blinkers come off and well worth another chance in a winnable race.

Dangers9. Kovanos has run well in both starts this time around and while a beaten favourite at Orange last time she kept closing at the finish, so the additional 100m will be a plus. Go well. 3. Draco's Fire hit the lead and looked the winner before being swamped late at Scone when well supported. May be a question with more ground to run out here. 10. Razella hasn't raced since November here she put a couple of handy run together and returning at this trip suits. Has to be included.

How to play it: Spanish Fox WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:35PM THE COUNTRY OUTFITTERS SUPER MAIDEN (1300 METRES)

3. Flying Bandit raced like a horse looking for a bit of ground when he worked home nicely into a midfield finish over 1100m at Hawkesbury on debut. Kinder draw and smaller field in his favour and should be competitive.

Dangers2. Baile Fervor has been hovering around a win lately and did a good job off a wide gate when placed over this trip at Hawkesbury two weeks ago. One of the main chances. 4. Justice Served on debut for the Waterhouse/Bott yard bears watching, won a trial in February before taking on open company in the latest trial. Keep safe. 1. Point Out improved into his second start at Moruya, appreciating the 1200m there. Couldn't leave out.

How to play it: Flying Bandit WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:10PM ELECTEL SERVICES COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

1. Snippety Star went down fighting first-up at Canberra, just succumbing late over the 1200m, so coming back a bit in trip may be an advantage. Goes forward and should be hard to run down.

Dangers4. Big Opinion hasn't trialled publicly and returns after a promising first preparation in the spring. Any market move would be a good pointer. Keep in mind. 5. Kool Bird also returns with no trial and did show a degree of talent last time in. Each-way hope. 9. Spirit In The Dark drops in grade after taking on the Black Opal and will find this a lot easier. Does take on older horses but can feature.

How to play it: Snippety Star WIN ($1.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:45PM EMMA MURPHY RACING BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

4. Bo Katan found a bit of late trouble when a close up fourth at Hawkesbury two weeks ago and definitely should have finished a bit closer. Nice winner before that and the mile shouldn't be a problem for him. Hard to beat.

Dangers9. Chaotic Beauty is flying at the moment winning easily over this course two runs back before an arrogant win at Cowra. Up in grade now but hard to fault. 8. Stratum Pride won her only start at this track and comes back in grade after taking on open company at Canberra two weeks ago. Bit hit and miss but can't be left out. 3. Dead Of Night was a small drifter in betting when resuming behind Gundy Guy at Canberra and didn't get into the race at all. Open to improvement.

How to play it: Bo Katan WIN ($2.15 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:25PM CHAMPION THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

6. Sturn Words scored an easy win at this track on debut back in November then sound effort when placed at Gundagai. Not seen in any recent trials so betting a bit of a pointer but is one of the main chances.

Dangers5. Canadian Express impressed at Mudgee before not having the best of fortune at Orange. Will go forward and give a good account. 1. Afterboomer was rested after breaking through for a maiden win at Newcastle in June. Fitter for a couple of trials and has to be considered. 2. Capitol Queen had plenty of support last time out at Kembla, led and knocked right up to beat one home. Better than that and give her another chance.

How to play it: Sturn Words WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:05PM BEST WESTERN PLUS GOULBURN BM58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

6. Martini Mumma was a very sharp maiden winner at Wagga first-up from a spell, dashing right away to win by over five lengths. She'll race somewhere on the speed and while up in grade should be right in the finish.

Dangers2. Alot A Lip won at Newcastle back in September as a short priced favourite then failed and spelled after running last at Kembla in October. Couple of nice trial leading in and must be respected. 4. Reluctance shook off the maiden at start two with a comfortable all the way win as favourite. Include in the chances. 3. Getty was too good at first run for new stable breaking through at start 10. Wide gate may be against but hard to ignore now he's won a race.

How to play it: Martini Mumma WIN ($1.75 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:45PM NEWHAVEN PARK STHN COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS WILD CARD (1400M)

8. Gundy Guy is the up and comer of this field and he's looked better at each of his three wins, leading all the way in the latest at Canberra. Draw is ideal for him and down 3.5kg on his latest win. Promising and should measure up.

Dangers: 1. Zouatica won the Moruya Cup in a cakewalk then two months between runs and he was softened right up in the Championships race at the same track, weakening from the turn. Better than that and likely to get a bit more control here. Must give another chance. 2. Bon Frankie was game in running third in that race at Moruya and only has to hold his form to be a good chance once again. Barrier one is ideal for him. 6. Salute Again ran a handy enough fourth behind Bianco Vilano at Albury and has been freshened since then. Blinkers come off and on his best he can show up.

How to play it: Gundy Guy WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 8 - 5:25PM ELITE HAULAGE COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

8. Felix Pereon can be a little hit and miss but plenty to like about that closing third at Moruya last time over the 1200m. Nice gate, shouldn't be too far off them in the run and is a good each-way chance if he can repeat.

Dangers: 1. Tavolo hasn't done a lot wrong in his career to date and while up in weight on his second at Sapphire Coast last time he is down in grade so has to be respected. 3. White Liar is a consistent type who has found one better at his past three starts but still run well in each. Has every hope from a soft draw. 9. Masters has only won one from 15 but good record at his home track without winning. Shade disappointing as favourite here last time but could bounce back.

How to play it: Felix Pereon EACH-WAY ($10 TAB Fixed Odds).
