Wigginton puts a line through In Evidence's QTIS Jewel form

Rockhampton trainer John Wigginton has put a line through In Evidence’s QTIS Jewel run and is hopeful of a quick return to form from the three-year-old at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

In Evidence, a winner of five of his 14 starts, made the trip south for the $500,000 QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast last month but struggled to beat two home in the 1200 metre feature.

The son of Nicconi will be seeking redemption at Eagle Farm when he lines up in the Three-Year-Old Quality Handicap over 1200 metres.

In Evidence earned a trip south for the QTIS Jewel Final after winning the QTIS Jewel qualifier at Mackay in late February.

"I don't know what went wrong," Wigginton said.

"I took him back home after it and gave him a barrier trial and he finished fourth and was beaten about five lengths.

"For some reason he just wouldn't go in the QTIS Jewel but he's fine now."

In Evidence also did not figure in the finish in the QTIS Jewel Final for two-year-olds when he finished sixth behind the Les Ross-trained Mishani Royale at Doomben in March of last year.

"He had no luck in the QTIS Jewel last year when he was still learning his craft," Wigginton said.

Wigginton is unsure of In Evidence's immediate future and his performance at Eagle Farm will decide where he heads next.

"I'm not sure if he's up to the winter carnival in Brisbane but I'll see how he goes on Saturday before making any decisions," he said.

"If he doesn't stay in Brisbane then the winter carnival circuit is on back home later in the year."

Wigginton bought In Evidence at the Magic Millions yearling sales after he was passed in for $56,000.

"I was the under bidder and I picked him up for $50,000," Wigginton said.

"I didn't go down for the sales and only watched the sale online but I liked his walk and his pedigree page."

Wigginton is a mechanic by trade and has been training for more than 30 years.

"I owned a few services stations and a butcher shop before I started training and I did some lawn mowing for a brief time," he said.

Wigginton's biggest win was in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes with Nessuno at Ipswich in 2005.

"Nessuno also won the Cleveland Bay Handicap in Townsville and I've won the Rocky Cup and Newmarket with Skymaker and She's Decent," he said.

"I also brought down Better Reflection to Brisbane in 2018 and she won the (Listed) Calaway Gal Stakes."
