Guineas aspirations for Warwick Farm winner

Chris Waller expects midweek winner Private Life to improve in leaps and bounds at his next campaign.

Chris Waller has some ambitious targets for well bred colt Private Life, who he believes has the potential to develop into a Caulfield Guineas contender.

The two-year-old showed the benefit of his debut fourth at Canterbury earlier this month to put a win on the board in Wednesday's Highland Race Colours Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm in what is likely to be his final run as a juvenile.

While the colt settled back in the field and made late headway at Canterbury, James Mcdonald was able to position Private Life ($6) behind the leader on Wednesday before shouldering into the clear and pulling away for a comfortable 1-1/4 length win over $2.60 favourite Shalaa Gold.

Mindful the major two-year-old races during the Brisbane winter carnival are likely to come too quickly, Waller is instead keen to set his sights on some of the better spring three-year-old races with the son of Written Tycoon.

"From an experience point of view, he put him there (behind the leader) and he always looked like he was travelling well, he pushed his way out and won like a good horse," Waller said.

"It's important for when you're taking on better horses and that's what he will be doing as a three-year-old.

"He will probably go out now, it's getting a bit too late to get to Queensland, but I did want to give him two runs as a two-year-old for that exact reason – (for) experience and then to come back as a three-year-old, grow, develop and he should continue to improve.

"He could be a Guineas horse as a three-year-old."

A $650,000 yearling purchase, Private Life is beautifully bred being out of multiple Group 1 placegetter Aliyana Tilde, whose big race performances included a narrow second to Streama in 2012 ATC Australian Oaks.
