Karavas looks set to make bright return in Dequetteville Stakes at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

It's Dequetteville Stakes Day in Adelaide on Saturday and in the feature, we are treated to the highly anticipated return of Karavas from the R & C Jolly camp, who is this week's best bet.

Only scoring by a head on debut over the 900m at Murray Bridge, the two-year-old filly was sent straight to Flemington at her next start to tackle the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes on Oaks Day. Racing off the pace early, Karavas would let rip under Jake Toeroek and put away a handy field - beating home Eneeza by a length, and subsequent Blue Diamond winner Hayasugi by 2.4L.

Debuting with a rating of 85 on the Racing and Sports scale, Karavas would crack the 100 rating at just at her second start, placing her higher rated than the previous 10 winners of the Dequetteville before their wins, the most recent victors being Stretan Angel (2023) and Karavas' stablemate See You In Heaven (2022), who were rated 83 and 99 respectively. Those two horses would record ratings of 104 & 102 in their Dequetteville successes. With improvement anticipated in her second preparation, I'm confident Karavas can run to a similar winning rating first up, which I'm confident will have this field covered.

Another runner from the R & C Jolly camp I'm keen to follow up on is Jazz Affair in race eight (8).

This four-year-old mare was undoubtedly the eye-catcher of the meeting here three weeks ago when rattling home into third, recording the day's fastest final 200m (11.44) in the process. Jazz Affair returned with a career best performance, running to a rating of 67 on the R & S scale, five pounds better than her previous peak (maiden win). Expecting there to be plenty more up her sleeve second up and with Toeroek sticking from the inside pillar, I see her being too hard to hold out.
