It's always interesting to see the paths that different three-year-olds may be taking in the Spring and Saturday gives us a good guide to that. Horses potentially on a Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) path are in the Group 3 San Domineco Stakes (1100m) while those potentially looking at a Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) opt for the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m).

The San Domineco throws up more questions than answers but the Up And Coming, while also very tough, throws up two horses that dominate betting and seem short with a bit of digging.

Les Vampires beat Encap at Warwick Farm last time out, starting $3.70 to $4.20. Encap was a sectional mark up at Racing & Sports, closing off strongly out wide for second, beaten 1.2 lengths. Now Les Vampires holds his price and Encap is 5x his which seems an overreaction and one worthy of a bet.

The other in the race that I think has plenty of talent is Cafe Millenium. I was taken with his debut win, rating to 105+ with a powerful finish before two forigveable runs. He's clearly a work in progress and the stable were hesitant about running him at Rosehill last time in but I think he's got Spring Champion written all over him and can be charging home.

For the best of the day I think Kalino is the most likely winning chance on the card and seems a fair price. The first up win rated very highly with 60kg which saw him start a $3 favourite against some better credentialed sprinters last week.

The drop back to 1200m against those types just didn't suit and it's interesting to see Waller back him up straight away, out to 1400m and against easier company. I think he can land just off the speed here and if he runs to his first up number the others would need to spike significantly.
