MR BRIGHTSIDE STARS IN THE C.F.ORR STAKES

As we build towards Autumn the Group 1 racing began at Caulfield with the 1400m C.F.Orr Stakes.

Mr Brightside timed his run to perfection to topple the gallant Pride of Jenni, who had been his conqueror in the Champions Mile during the Spring Carnival.

The Blue Diamond Preludes were also run at Caulfield with Bodyguard (Colts and Geldings) and Hayasugi (Fillies) winning impressively.

Yonce found form in the Carlyon Cup with Caulfield also throwing price advantages of 31 and 33% throughout the day.

The biggest upset probably came when Kallos downed the heavily backed Asfoora in the Rubiton.

At Randwick it was Caballus who took out the Eskimo Prince Stakes with a whopping 55% price advantage on best tote, with the well supported Fully Lit claiming the Inglis Millenium at a 45% edge.

We also had Group 1 racing in the Greyhounds at the Meadows with the Zoom Top going the way of Valpolicella!

We will dive into the good the bad and the spectacular as a huge period of racing launched on a glorious day across the country.

BEST BACKED WINNERS

$956,000 was matched on the C.F.Orr Stakes with 84% of that volume going the way of Mr Brightside. It was a huge go for the star who justified that emphatically.

Another Wil was also well supported earlier in the day in the MRC Clop Club, with 77% of nearly $500,000 matched.

It was a day of semi-upsets with a lot of third and fourth favourites winning races, but a look at Randwick saw two well supported runners salute.

Fully Lit in the Inglis Millenium had 55% of the $421,000 matched volume and Amor Victorious was the only one they wanted in the penultimate event in Sydney.

FIRMERS AND DRIFTERS

Miss Busslinger got the day off to a good start with a strong firm proving successful at Doomben.

From $1.98 into $1.65 in the opener before winning.

Later in the day though we saw Artful Girl with the biggest firm of the weekend, from $9.20 into $4.70 before running second.

Morphettville again proved to be an accurate venue for market moves with Wheels shortening from $5 into $3.25 before winning Race 2. Piercing Sky drifted from $3.05 out to $4.40 in the same race and ran unplaced.

At Caulfield, Southport Tycoon drifted sharply before Race 4, from $1.95 out to $2.38 and was beaten by Snow Patrol.

At Randwick, Gently Rolled was firmly backed in Race 5, moving from $3.30 to $2.20 before winning.

Fully Lit (pictured) on the other hand defied a large drift from $2.72 out to $3.75 before winning the Mil;ennium.

The drift on Frilled in the next race had more luck though, from $2.25 out to $3.60 before running third.

BAD BEATS AND IN-PLAY BOLTERS

Asfoora (pictured) was very well supported in the Rubiton having run competitively behind Imperatriz in the spring.

Taking 81% of the volume in the lead up before finishing second behind Kallos.

At Caulfield in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude we saw three horses trade as favourite before losing. Kuroyanagi ($1.17), Matisse ($1.56) and Bold Bastille ($1.76) all looked the winner before Hayasugi got it done.

Enterprise Pom looked home in Race 7 at Doomben, being matched for $42 at $1.04 in the straight before getting nailed late. In that same event Northern Express got up from $200 in play!

The A League threw up two remarkable results on the weekend, with the previously unbeated Melbourne Victory going down to Macarthur FC. Macarthur traded at $10.50 (matched for $173) but after scoring in the 21st minute they were able to hang on.

On friday night Perth were $1.01 and were matched for $69,000 at less than $1.20 against Adelaide.

The draw traded at $100 in-play before the match finished 3-3.

PRICE ADVANTAGE

Caulfield was bookended with strong price advantages, with Dont Doubt Dory's win in the opener coming at a 31.4% better price than Best Tote.

On the very last on the card Estriella defied a drift to win at $4.66 which was 33.1% better than Best Tote.

Hayasugi (17.6%), Mr Brightside (12.1%) and Bodyguard (16.4%) were all very good value.

Randwick saw Castanya's $13.54 price trump best Tote by 29%, representing an additional $30 in the pocket for $10 outlay.

Ceerseven (30.4%), Atmospheric Rock (22%) and Brudenell (34.8%) were all great results.

But the pick of the main metro meetings came when Caballus (pictured) won the Eskimo Prince at $9.61 which was a whopping 55% better than Best Tote.
