The anticipation is mounting as Newcastle Racecourse gears up to host the annual Mark Hughes Foundation Charity Race Day, proudly supported by The Burwood Inn. Building on the resounding success of previous editions, this year's event falls on the official launch day of the Beanie for Brain Cancer season, a poignant initiative led by the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) to raise funds and awareness for brain cancer research and celebrates The MHF 10-year anniversary

In 2013, former NRL player Mark Hughes received a devastating diagnosis of brain cancer, sparking the creation of the MHF in 2014 by Mark and his wife Kirralee. Since then, the foundation has been at the forefront of the fight against brain cancer, rallying the support of the Novocastrian community and beyond.

Mark Hughes expressed his excitement for this year's race day event. "Myself and the team are looking forward to another fantastic day at the races for the third annual MHF Charity Race Day. Like our Foundation, this day is built on great local people connecting to support a great cause – the amazing Burwood Inn community along with the Newcastle Racecourse get right behind it.

It's made even more special this year that it has fallen on the first day of winter when our brand new 2024 MHF beanies go on sale, so it's going to be a great celebration that we are grateful to be a part of, we hope to see plenty of race goers join us on June 1".

The Mark Hughes Foundation Race Day, now in its third year, has become a beacon of hope for those affected by brain cancer, drawing over 1500 patrons in its last edition. This year, the event promises an unforgettable experience for attendees, featuring thrilling races, live entertainment, and opportunities to support the MHF through donations, auctions, and merchandise sales.

The highlight of the day is the prestigious Mark Hughes Foundation Cup, which embodies the spirit of unity and solidarity in the fight against brain cancer. Renowned trainers and jockeys will compete for glory, with the Cup adorned with the iconic MHF beanie as a symbol of hope and resilience.

Former Newcastle Knights players, will grace the event with their presence, underscoring their unwavering support for the MHF and its mission.

Newcastle Racecourse CEO, Duane Dowell, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, highlighting its significance in driving positive change. "We are delighted to partner with the Mark Hughes Foundation once again for this important cause. The Mark Hughes Foundation Race Day has quickly become a highlight on our calendar, and we look forward to surpassing last year's success."

Tony Dart, owner of The Burwood Inn, commended the seamless coordination with Newcastle Racecourse, reaffirming his commitment to supporting the MHF and its initiatives.

With less than one week to go until race day, excitement is building as the community prepares to rally behind the MHF and make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by brain cancer.
