RICHMOND v SYDNEY

Sunday 31 March @ MCG

One of the strange facets of the Richmond/Sydney rivalry is how few times they have played at the MCG of late.

Since 2018 it has only been twice for one win each with the Tigers upsetting last year. That came after the Gather Round late game Tom Papley shellacking.

At least for Richmond, they gave a shout against Port Adelaide tackling hard and using that familiar progression of the sherrin by handball, kick or simply knocking it on.

Martin and Lynch will be better again for the run and Bolton looked to get back into a bit better touch.

Right now they seem one midfielder down and Lynch requiring more help up front. Bolton can't be in both places at once.

What they will need to be is capable of stopping the scything, penetrating bullets from the Sydney midfield. Between Gulden, Heeney, Warner, McInerney, Campbell and Blakey from the back, the only more publicised darts come from Luke Littler.

With such skills, it offers the forwards that bit more time to run the backs around. Then tack on McLean helping Grundy out plus spending some time forward. It's mixture and fluidity provides danger.

As for Heeney, it is some start and he won't be moving from the middle no matter who is playing.

Thing don't often work in straight lines and form isn't always constant. But the Swans are in a rich vein of form. And having given the Pies a touch up here a fortnight back, the MCG will only be a positive.

There might be stages of the game where Richmond is in the right spot but the kicking skills should take over.
