Was Rankine's dazzling run against Pies really too far?

Collingwood have snared another close win - this time by four points against Adelaide - but they received some help from the umpires in the dying seconds.

THEY SAID IT: "He is well aware of the issue and when it confronts him it's about rest. He has got some medication for it." - Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies talks about Ollie Wines' latest heart scare, which struck again during the first quarter of the Power's one-point win over Hawthorn.

PLAYER OF THE ROUND: Chad Warner was simply dazzling in Sydney's 52-point thumping of Carlton. Warner tallied 28 disposals, three goals, three goal assists and 561m gained. His swift side-stepping embarrassed Blues players at times.

THE MOMENT: Did Izak Rankine run too far? With 22 seconds remaining and Adelaide down by four points, Rankine collected the ball on the wing, sprinted forward, took a bounce, and sprinted some more before pumping the ball into attack. But the umpire deemed Rankine had run too far, granting Collingwood a free kick that allowed them to see out the win. Special mention to Port's Darcy Byrne-Jones for his match-winning soccered goal against Hawthorn with two seconds remaining, and Harley Reid's three-bounce goal-of-the-year contender against Melbourne.

TALKING POINT: Ross Lyon's honeymoon period on return to St Kilda is well and truly over after a fifth loss from their last six games. A 17-point defeat to Lyon's former club Fremantle left the Saints with a 3-7 record and a huge mountain to climb if they are to repeat last year's effort by playing finals again this season.

STAT THAT MATTERS: 12 - that's the sum of points that have separated Adelaide and Collingwood over their past four games against each other. The Magpies have come up trumps on each occasion - by five points, one point, two points, and four points. Five of the past six games between the two sides have been decided by five points or less, with the only anomaly a 42-point win to the Pies in 2022.

TRIBUNAL WATCH: Brisbane Lions forward Eric Hipwood received a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle on Richmond's Nic Vlastuin. Luke Parker is expected to cop a hefty suspension for an off-the-ball bump in the VFL that sent his opponent to hospital. Sydney star Chad Warner escaped with a fine for his high fend-off on Carlton's Marc Pittonet.

INJURIES: R Fox (Syd, shoulder), I Heeney (Syd, ankle), M Frederick (Frem, concussion), I Rankin (Adel, hamstring), M Lefau (Rich, jaw), D Jones (GWS, hamstring), W Hoskin-Elliott (Coll, hamstring), F McInness (Coll, concussion), J Weitering (Carlton, thigh), M Andrew (Suns, leg), S De Koning (Geel, hamstring), M Bergman (NM, hamstring), O Wines (Port, heart), J Lever (Melb, concussion), J Sinn (Port, collarbone).

WHAT'S NEXT: The Western Bulldogs will be aiming to stop the Swans juggernaut when they kick off the round on Thursday night. Collingwood make a rare trip out of Victoria when they face Fremantle in Perth on Friday night. North host Port Adelaide at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, with Carlton taking on Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium. Geelong and GWS will be aiming to bounce back to the winners' list when they face off on Saturday night, while Richmond and Essendon battle it out for Dreamtime at the G.
