Cameron Green, arguably Australia's most talented player of his generation, has scored his maiden Test century with a chanceless knock against India in Ahmedabad.

Green brought up three figures from 143 balls soon after lunch on day two as Australia looked to bat India out of the fourth Test.

After missing the first two matches of the series due to a broken finger, the allrounder has made up for lost time by putting together an innings full of stunning drives with 18 boundaries.

Green was out sweeping to Ravichandran Ashwin for 114, gloving one down leg side to wicketkeeper KS Bharat.

Long touted for greatness, most notably by Greg Chappell who called him Australia's most exciting talent since Ricky Ponting, Green scored six half-centuries before converting.

The 23-year-old has made at least one significant contribution with the bat in every series he has played in since debuting at Adelaide Oval against India in December 2020.

Star opener Usman Khawaja heaped praise on the 23-year-old after play on Thursday, saying he hoped the West Australian could break through for a century.

"I've played a lot of him in Shield cricket, he's scored some amazing runs against Queensland, scored some big hundreds against us, I've seen the best of Cameron Green," Khawaja said.

"He's so young, such a young cricketer, people forget that.

"He's a very special cricketer when he's on the park doing his thing, fingers crossed we see a lot more of him in the future."
