India-England series level heading into 3rd Test

With the series evenly poised at 1-1 following the opening two Tests, India welcome England to the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot beginning on Thursday, February 15.

The major news heading into the remainder of the series is that superstar Indian batter Virat Kohli won't feature due to personal reasons, while England's premier spinner Jack Leach is also out with a knee injury.

India are 4/9 to earn victory, with England priced at a handsome 11/4 to claim a second Test victory on Indian soil this winter. The draw is a 9/1 longshot, probably best avoided given sunshine and 35-degree heat are expected across the five days.

In terms of the venue, India have hosted two Test matches at the Saurashtra stadium – against England in 2016 and West Indies in 2018. Following a draw against the English, India defeated the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs.

Young Indian starlet Yashasvi Jaiswal has enjoyed a fruitful series so far with his aggressive style at the top of the Indian batting order. He was a particular force in the first innings with scores of 80 and 209 in the opening two matches.

In addition, his boundary-hitting prowess opens further markets to exploit – he has 34 fours and 10 sixes so far this series. He is 13/5 to hit the most fours in the first innings, 12/5 to score the most fours in the match and 7/2 to launch the most sixes - he's also 4/1 to be the match's top run scorer.

For England, Zak Crawley was excellent in the Second Test notching a pair of 50s in Visakhapatnam but was unable to convert those impressive knocks into a match-winning effort. He tallied 19 fours and three sixes in last week's defeat and should be considered in the boundaries market – Crawley is 11/4 to be England's top four hitter.

The dark horse in the batter markets may be all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who returns to the squad after missing the Second Test through injury. In three innings the left-arm spinner boasts an average of 144 with a high score of 100*. Jadeja averages just over 40 in Indian conditions with the bat with two centuries and 12 50s.

For England, Ben Stokes has previous in Rajkot scoring 157 runs against India in 2016 - hitting 18 fours and two sixes. The England skipper is one of just three England bats to pass the 50 mark in the series so far.

With the ball, spin – like at many Indian venues – reigns supreme with the four-leading wicket-takers at the ground being spinners. Ravichandran Ashwin has nine wickets in four innings, Jadeja has seven wickets in four innings and Kuldeep Yadav six in two innings. In 2016, Adil Rashid took seven wickets as England's leg-spinning option.

Despite spin dominance expected once again, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the X-factor in the Second Test with sublime spells of new ball and reverse swing bowling. The right-arm quick has 15 wickets through two games with at least two wickets in every innings. He also claimed nine scalps in India's win in Visakhapatnam. 4/1 to be the game's Top Bowler is an excellent price.
