WORLD WIDE TECHNLOGY CHAMPIONSHIP
The Tour heads south of the border for another filler event before the Christmas break. We're still yet to see many of the losing Ryder Cup team suit up this season and this week's field is another second stringer.
While the field isn't stacked with big names, there's a famous course name making his Tour debut as a course designer – this week's layout in El Cardonal is the brainchild of the Big Cat himself.
While the course was opened back in 2014, this is the first time we've seen it in the Tour rotation. The 7,452 yard layout is played as a par-72 and despite Tiger's involvement this is firmly a resort style track suited more to working on a tan more than your short game. The length is mostly distributed over long par-4s and par-5s.
Players will be lining up in front of carpark sized fairways so expect the bombers to really unleash with the big stick. It's as simple as it gets off the tee and it doesn't get any more difficult heading into the extremely generous greens – you would need to be straying miles off course to not be hitting GIRs this week.
There's no stats available to perform the full model approach however I'll be overlaying somewhat of an advantage to long, wayward hitters.
BETTING MARKETS
With no Euro event on this week, the weak field is still drawing solid bettor attention and volume has been decent to this point. Young gun Aberg has been installed as favourite and has hovered around the $11 mark since open. Second in line is the big hitting Cam Young, who should enjoy having a bash on this easygoing track.
The market is definitely playing the big hitting angle, with short knockers Grillo and Glover the big drifters while Luke List and Cam Champ are on the move downwards.
STEPHAN JAEGER
The German has enjoyed a very solid 2023 barely missing a cut all year. He hasn't really had the results to go with his strong underlying game, which is likely why he is flying under the radar this week. Has a good off the tee game and if he can get hot on the greens he's a great chance in a soft field.
Betting Strategy
BACK (WIN) Jaeger for 0.3 units at $36+
MICHAEL KIM
After completely losing the plot in 2019, Kim has found his way back from golf's equivalent of the "white room" via the Korn Ferry Tour. His return to the big leagues this year has seen him back four top-10 finishes and he's a decent chance to nab a comeback win this week.
Betting Strategy
BACK (WIN) M. Kim for 0.1 units at $95+
MJ DAFFUE
He's missed his last four cuts, but none of them have been problems with the driver. Gains a heap of strokes with his length off the tee and won't have any issues with wayward drives on this friendly track.
Betting Strategy
BACK (WIN) MJ Daffue for 0.1 units at $140+
