Robertson 'almost perfect' in Scot Open

Australian snooker star Neil Robertson has rattled off four breaks of 80 and above to clinch a quarter-final win over world No.2 Mark Selby in the Scottish Open

Neil Robertson has put on an imperious performance to dismiss world No.2 Mark Selby 5-2 and move into the semi-finals of snooker's Scottish Open in Edinburgh.

The Australian former world champion won four of the first five frames with breaks of 133, 99, 83 and 100, describing his charge into the last four as "almost perfect".

Selby hit two century breaks of his own to narrow the gap to 4-2, before the 2017 champion wrapped things up in the seventh frame.

"I really enjoyed it," Robertson told Eurosport after the match at the Meadowbank Sports Centre.

"It was good that Mark played really well, too, when he got his chances.

"Every long ball I went for went in. I guess it was almost perfect.

"It's nice to have nights like that, but you need to be clinical when you get the chances."

Robertson's victory sets up a semi-final against Joe O'Connor, who reached his second ranking event last-four with a decisive 5-1 victory over fellow Englishman Ricky Walden.

The pair have met once before, with Robertson winning 6-0 at the 2014 UK Championship.

"Joe is such an improved player," the Australian world No.4 said, reflecting on that clash.

"I played him in the UK (Championship) and he looked completely out of sorts.

"I was a little disrespectful with the way I played. He was awful - he'd say that himself - but I kind of owe his family a bit of an apology for the way I played.

"(But) for him to suffer those kind of defeats, work on his game and turn it around is amazing. He's beaten all the top players in the world now."

Elsewhere, world No.3 Judd Trump's Scottish Open reached its conclusion after losing a gripping deciding frame in a 5-4 quarter-final defeat to Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

Un-Nooh, ranked 54 places below Trump, will face Gary Wilson, who beat Kyren Wilson 5-3, for a place in the final.
