More Rabbitohs in Origin frame but Demetriou keeps cool

South Sydney could lose a raft of players to Origin duty as the series progresses but Jason Demetriou is prepared to cross that bridge when he comes to it.

As many as eight South Sydney players could be in the frame for selection in the final two State of Origin games, but coach Jason Demetriou is remaining calm as the Rabbitohs plot a return to form.

The Rabbitohs lost Cameron Murray and Jai Arrow to Origin duty for the series opener and Latrell Mitchell is a certainty to join them in Game II after missing Wednesday's clash with a calf complaint.

With Tevita Pangai Jr. and Hudson Young both underwhelming on Origin debut, Rabbitohs forwards Tevita Tatola and Keaon Koloamatangi have the chance to impress NSW coach Brad Fittler and clinch maiden caps of their own.

Campbell Graham was 18th man for Game I before withdrawing with a sternum injury and will again challenge for selection in the back-line.

Veteran Damien Cook will be itching for a recall if Fittler opts to re-hatch previous plans to take a second hooker in.

Five-eighth Cody Walker is in blistering form and will be an option if Fittler tinkers with his halves, who struggled to spark the Blues in Adelaide.

As he hopes to halt a two-game losing streak when Souths meet Gold Coast on Saturday, Demetriou said it was up to his players to force Fittler's hand.

"If we play well and get results and those guys individually have a good game and the team benefits from it, then they're going to put themselves in the frame," he said.

"But it's up to them."

The bye will keep Souths from playing understrength ahead of Game II but their Game III representatives will miss the round-19 clash against Canterbury.

Demetriou could also choose to rest players after Game II given the short turnaround, having done the same after the series finale last year. The Rabbitohs have another bye immediately after Origin III.

Beyond that, the coach is not yet considering how more Origin outs could force changes at the Rabbitohs, who will welcome forwards back from injury around the time others are selected for Origin.

"We get through these next two weeks then we get a bye, so we don't miss anyone leading into Origin II, then we take it from there," he said.

"We've got some players coming back after the bye, hopefully Tom (Burgess) will be good for then, Siliva Havili and Davvy Moale will play footy next week, so we've got some big ins coming back through that period.

"The real probably difficult period is this period now and after that, we're starting to get some rest in between there."

Both Murray and Arrow are set to line up to face the Titans after getting through lighter training sessions than their teammates on Friday.

Mitchell is on track to return against St George Illawarra next week, while Graham is facing the Titans as planned.

"He will be flying tomorrow," Demetriou said of Graham.
