John Bateman will take his bow for Wests Tigers against Canterbury, after the England international was named to start in their round-three NRL clash at Belmore.

Bateman and Adam Doueihi were given Saturday's final training session to prove their match fitness to coach Tim Sheens ahead of Sunday's clash with the Bulldogs.

Doueihi is managing bruising and swelling on his big toe, an injury described as "nasty" by Sheens.

Bateman trained twice this week after recently making the move back to Australia from England, and on Saturday was named in the starting lineup.

It will mark his first NRL game since playing 11 times for Canberra in 2020.

The Tigers earlier posted a video to social media of Bateman singing the team song, a debutant tradition at the club.

"I don't want him exploding, I just want him to play some footy," Sheens joked prior to the captain's run about Bateman's adjustment to the sizzling Sydney weather.

"He's still settling into the country ... he's getting to know the boys really well and finding a voice in training."

Doueihi has also been named at stand-off and will be a welcome inclusion for a Tigers side chasing their first win in 2023.

Bateman's inclusion pushes Shawn Blore, named in place of Isaiah Papali'i, to the bench.

Injuries have forced Wests into further changes with Charlie Staines moving to fullback in place of Daine Laurie and Starford To'a covering at centre after Tommy Talau suffered a broken nose against Newcastle in round two.
