In from 30/1 to 18/1 with IAS for the Benalla Cup. 6/1 on the Tote. Apparently this is the horse's last chance. I can't have it. I can't have any of those horses in the Cup today.

I like Chasm in the good sprint at Benalla and Cip Cip Hooray in the 2nd last at Yarra Valley. Lovely day!

Saliente paper odds

Saliente's odds in the Herald Sun's form guide were 15/1! We all know not to put much faith in paper odds but that is ridiculous. He looked a big go firming from about 8s into a tick over 3/1 (naturally I got the tick over 3/1). He has a good 2nd up record and prefers something around the mile. Most of the other horses are provincial types and the better class horses such as Bird Dancer and Purple Chocolate were caned last start. Add to that, Saliente was beaten by Pinnalces which ran third in the Doncaster. And Michelle Payne is regarded as being a very good wet track jockey. 15/1? Strange one that.

I was surprised he was bet at 6/4 with IAS. I rated him around the 5/2 mark. Was he that short on track?

AFL/NRL BEST BETS

Nige reminded of this comp I started during the latter part of last season. I'll give it another go this year with an adjustment or two.

You get a maximum of 3 bets per round (all-ups, doubles etc count as one bet) and you may mix codes. For the ease of results I only want AFL or NRL bets.

You can join in any time during the year and you dont have to bet in every round, just when you choose to.

I'm thinking of starting us all off at $20,000 and punters may bet what they wish of that. If you lose all your dough, well, you lose all your dough!

Just quote your bet/s, odds, and the outlet you got your odds from.

It's a comp but I'm not going to worry about checking odds people quote etc. Just try to be honest.

I'll bump this post thursday.

Oh, exotics are allowed just as long as you think it's a relatively easy thing for me to check the result of. I didn't have any trouble last year.

The 'Off' Saturdays

The difference between the Super Saturdays and the Off Saturdays seems greater to me these days. Today is ok but nothing really to get excited about. The top horses can't run every week but geez I wish they could. If I were a professional I'd call the day off, but I aint and the AFL is still a week away so what else am I gunna do?

IAS has Flemington rated as DEAD. Makybe Diva must be running there today because we've had some bl00dy hot weather in the last few days.

Brom Brom in R2 is priced at 11/8 - he's a good chance, but not THAT good a chance, I'll pass.

I will have a go at the filly Pleasantsundaygirl in the Matron. Very good runs this time in against some good GR1/Gr2 fillies is good form for this race.

I like Stillme at the price in the Blamey. He improves little by little every run and he's a very good place chance today at nice odds - I'll go e/w 1 x 3 units.

He's Canny in Syd is the best bet for me but I'd like a little more than 6/4.

They say Bart's got a good one in the last called Dealer Principal - ok, I'll fall into it. L Cassidy rides it over 1500 at Rosehill which is good enough for me to spec it.
