The Ciaron Maher-trained filly Set Square followed up her debut recently at Donald to win well here. She was trapped three wide without cover, racing in fifth place, but was travelling comfortably. She moved up (under riding) wide out rounding the home turn and put up a solid staying effort to win, drawing away nearing the post by a long neck. She looks suited to further than today’s 1600m and looks the making of a very handy staying filly. The well-supported Home Run Hero had a good trip in fourth place, with cover. He moved up at the turn, got to the front at the 100m but could not hold off the late closing winner to finish second, seeming to have every chance.
