The Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained two-year-old gelding Grandioso put up a good effort in winning on debut. He did not show any early pace and settled back in eighth place, behind a good tempo before improving coming to the home turn. He got a split (wide out) at the 200m, challenged at the 200m and despite racing a bit greenly, finished too well to grab a narrow but really promising win. He should continue to improve and is a horse to watch. The Darren Weir-trained colt Indian Thunder raced in third place, improved nicely coming to the home turn, hit the front at the 200m only to be caught on the post for a close second in a promising debut.
