Strawberry Boy began well and went straight to the lead. He was able to set a moderate tempo (first 1000m 1:02.15) before moving clear rounding the home turn. He had a good lead at the 200m and although tiring, he lasted to win narrowly but well, taking his record to nine starts for six wins. The Italian-raced Bit Of Hell was about eighth one off the rails before switching out wide at the home turn. He got to third at the 100m and kept running on well for a late-closing second, putting up a promising effort at his Australian debut. Oregon Spirit was about tenth one off the rails, switched out wide that the 300m and then ran on nicely for a good third. The New Boy was second to the home turn and held on for fourth while the German-bred import Pakal was fifth on the rails to the turn and kept battling on nicely in the sprint home for a sound fifth (beaten length and half) at his first Australian start. *ANZ
