The Anthony Cummings-trained three-year-old Alpha Beat ($3.80) has now won two of his four starts. He was a little slow to move and was last in the nine-horse field to the 800m. He started to improve nearing the 600m and moved up wide (with cover) nearing the home turn. He switched out passing the 300m and ran on nicely to win by a head. It was a good run. The favourite Jade’s Boy was back in eighth place before moving up (wide-out) from the 600m. He made a quick run to take the lead shortly after straightening and was only caught in the closing stages for second, putting up a good effort. *ANZ
