Futurity Stakes (G1)
Turn Me Loose put up a strong effort to win his third Group One race. He was trapped deep in the early stages from barrier nine before easing to race in third place nearing the 800m. He moved up well rounding the home turn, took the lead on passing the 200m and went on to score impressively. Stratum Star began well, settled in fifth place, one off the rails before improving approaching the home turn. He challenged at the 100m and fought well for a very good second, just finding the winner a bit too good. Suavito travelled well in fourth place on the rails, got through at the 200m and kept fighting on well for a sound third in yet another very honest effort. Rebel Dane was back in eighth place, one off the rails, improved (wide out) rounding the home turn and did well in fighting on for good (1.7 lengths) fourth. The United States missed the start badly and was a distant last in the early stages. He was still last nearing the home turn, fanned deep on straightening and made considerable ground to finish (1.9 lengths) fifth in an outstanding first-up effort. Trust In A Gust showed pace, raced in second place, behind a solid pace and tired in the straight for (2.9 lengths) sixth while second favourite Hucklebuck began quickly and surprisingly went to the front. He then raced quite keenly and weakened from the 200m to finish (4.7 lengths) eighth in an uncharacteristic effort which perhaps should be overlooked.
