Mourinho began well from barrier nine and showed pace to take the lead at the winning post, the first time. He then travelled comfortably in front, steadying the pace before lifting the tempo approaching the home turn. He veered out under pressure half-way down the straight but then rallied to hold on for a good win under his 59kg. More Than Sacred was well ridden by Glen Boss in the early stages as he eased her from barrier ten and got her across to settle eighth on the rails. She was angled out on passing the 600m, fanned wide at the home turn and ran on solidly for a late-closing second. The favourite Le Roi travelled well in fourth place before moving up three deep nearing the turn. He was hindered to a degree when putting in a run in the straight and then kept battling on to finish third. Epingle was eighth one off the rails but was under riding at the 600m as the pace quickened. She switched to the rails at the 200m and then ran on nicely to dead-heat for fourth. Count Encosta was fifth on the rails, angled into clear running on straightening and kept battling on to dead-heat for fourth. Ali Vital was sixth, one off the rails, moved up at the turn but just battled on for sixth while the top weight Mr O’Ceirin (59.5kg) raced in third place on the rails to the turn but weakened in the straight to finish (4.8 lengths) seventh.
