Claudia Jean won impressively here on debut. She settled nicely outside the leader, travelling at a moderate early tempo (first 400m 25.09). She picked up the pace from the 300m, went to the front on passing the 200m and went on to win easily by three and a half lengths, sprinting home in a fast 32.59 (last 600m). She looks a quality filly. Godolphin’s most attractive colt Bosnia ($1.65 favourite) trailed the winner, racing in fourth place but was beaten for speed when she sprinted at the 300m. He then battled on quite well again to finish (3.5 lengths) second. It was his first start, he should be improved by the experience and appears to have a lot of potential. Call Me Anything led the field until the 300m point and he then fought well, just missing second in a photo for a promising (3.5 lengths) third on debut. Bella Orfana was a bit slow to move, settled last in the small field and raced a bit greenly in the early stages, due to the steady early pace. She put in a run from the 300m and made ground being unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race to finish (3.7 lengths) fourth. It was a sound effort on debut. Ayres Rock was third on the rails to the 300m but he weakened over the final stages to finish (5.2) lengths last in the five horse field.
