The John Thompson-trained three-year-old Mr Missmurt impressed winning in a fast time (56.82) on debut. He was smartly away from his wide barrier (11) and soon crossed to race behind the leader Maroon Bay, who was racing a bit keenly. He went to the lead passing the 200m mark and then fought back well to win by a length. He looks likely to make a very handy sprinter. Another first starter Pretty In Paris, from the John O’Shea stable, settled about seventh one off the rails and was giving the leader about five lengths on entering the straight. She put in a good run from the 200m and ran on particularly well for a promising second. *ANZ
