Sportingbet Penny Edition Stks (LR)
Golden Penny was slowly away and she was last in the 11-horse field in the early stages. She then drove through between runners and was about eighth at the 900m. She switched out wide rounding the home turn and sprinted quickly to grab the lead at the 200m and then went on for a good win, handling the Slow7 conditions well. Equal favourite Kneeling was eased from barrier nine and was last after going a short distance. She moved up (wide out) from the 600m, went to the centre of the track on straightening, got to second at the 100m and battled on to hold that position at the post. Our Freed Man was a handy fifth between runners to the home turn. He switching into the clear on straightening, and kept fighting on to just get third. The other equal favourite Just Discreet raced in about sixth place, but three wide without cover to the 600m. She was under pressure from the home turn and ran well below her best tiring for tenth, possibly being affected by the Slow 7 track. *ANZ
