The Quarterback is a very promising three-year-old. He was slowly away and was last in the ten-horse field on settling down and was giving the leader about eight lengths when still last at the 600m. He looked to improve nearing the turn and then pushed into the clear on straightening. He then made a quick run, easily took the lead at the 100m and went on to win comfortably by just over a length. It was his second win in three starts and he looks to have quite a future. Ilgattino had a good run in third place on the rails. He got a split to take a narrow lead halfway down the straight but he found the winner far too good in the closing stages but still held on quite well for a sound second. *ANZ
