Faraja, resuming after his debut sixth as a two-year-old at Flemington almost 12 months ago, was slowly away but soon recovered to settle in fourth place. He was giving the leader about five lengths as he improved from the 600m. He fanned deep at the turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled on well to score by a long head, going away. Bally Paddy settled nicely back in third place, moved up well rounding the home turn and looked the winner when he grabbed the lead at the 200m, only to be overhauled nearing the post for a sound second, while Hey Charlie made late ground from the tail of the field to finish third.
